Differences in types of objects being 18manipulated is the most common point of variability of similar, but 19not identical designs, and these are a direct target for 20metaprogramming. Templates were originally designed to address this 21exact problem. However, without predefined mechanisms for 22representing and manipulating <em>sequences</em> of types as opposed to 23standalone template parameters, high-level template metaprogramming 24is severely limited in its capabitilies.</p> 25<p>The MPL recognizes the importance of type sequences as a fundamental 26building block of many higher-level metaprogramming designs by 27providing us with a conceptual framework for formal reasoning 28and understanding of sequence properties, guarantees and 29characteristics, as well as a first-class implementation of that 30framework — a wealth of tools for concise, convenient, 31conceptually precise and efficient sequence manipulation.</p> 32<ul class="toc simple" id="outline"> 33<li><a class="reference internal" href="./concepts.html" id="id1394">Concepts</a></li> 34<li><a class="reference internal" href="./classes.html" id="id1405">Classes</a></li> 35<li><a class="reference internal" href="./views.html" id="id1416">Views</a></li> 36<li><a class="reference internal" href="./intrinsic-metafunctions.html" id="id1424">Intrinsic Metafunctions</a></li> 37</ul> 38</div> 39 40<div class="footer-separator"></div> 41<table class="footer"><tr class="footer"><td class="header-group navigation-bar"><span class="navigation-group"><a href="../refmanual.html" class="navigation-link">Prev</a> <a href="./concepts.html" class="navigation-link">Next</a></span><span class="navigation-group-separator"> | </span><span class="navigation-group">Back <a href="./iterators.html" class="navigation-link">Along</a></span><span class="navigation-group-separator"> | </span><span class="navigation-group"><a href="../refmanual.html" class="navigation-link">Up</a> <a href="../refmanual.html" class="navigation-link">Home</a></span><span class="navigation-group-separator"> | </span><span class="navigation-group"><a href="./refmanual_toc.html" class="navigation-link">Full TOC</a></span></td> 42<td><div class="copyright-footer"><div class="copyright">Copyright © 2001-2009 Aleksey Gurtovoy and David Abrahams</div> 43Distributed under the Boost Software License, Version 1.0.
