However, the (unix) 42shared library version is still 1.5 (i.e. libGL.so.1.5.xxxxxx). 43Bumping the shared library version to 2.x would cause linking problems 44with existing OpenGL applications. Since OpenGL 2.x is backward 45compatible with OpenGL 1.x the shared library version number doesn't 46have to be incremented (which would indicate an incompatible ABI). 47
48
49Other OpenGL vendors name their OpenGL 2.x libraries libGL.so.1.0.xxxxx 50for the same reason. 51
52 53 54 55
New features
56
57
OpenGL 2.0 and 2.1 API support. 58
Entirely new Shading Language code generator. See the 59Shading Language page for more information. 60
Much faster software execution of vertex, fragment shaders. 61
New vertex buffer object (vbo) infrastructure 62
Updated glext.h file (version 39) 63
Updated glxext.h file (version 19) 64
GL_MAX_DRAWBUFFERS is now 4 (software rendering) so 65 "multiple render targets" are really supported. 66
67 68
Bug fixes
69
70
Fog was errantly applied when a fragment shader was enabled (bug 9346) 71
glPush/PopClientAttrib didn't handle VBO bindings correctly (bug 9445) 72
With 32-bit Z buffer, the fragment Z of lines and points was sometimes wrong. 73
GL_POST_CONVOLUTION_ALPHA_BIAS/SCALE was broken. 74
1D convolution state could effect 2D image transfers 75
Overlapping glCopyPixels with negative Y zoom didn't work (bug 10521) 76
Fixed a number of framebuffer/renderbuffer reference counting bugs 77
Fixed a few bugs in software-emulated alpha planes 78
Assorted minor bug fixes in glCopy/DrawPixels, glPixelZoom, etc. 79
Assorted DRI driver bug fixes. 80
Fixed a number of bugs that prevented "depth-peeling" rendering from working. 81
82 83 84
Internal code changes
85
86
Old array_cache module replaced by new vbo module. All geometry 87rendering is now cast in the form of vertex buffer objects. 88
Massive changes to the Shading Language compiler and related state. 89
Vertex/fragment shaders are compiled into GPU instructions and 90programs very similar to GL_ARB_vertex/fragment_program. 91
Vertex and fragment programs are executed with the same code now. 92
The SSE-optimized vertex program path has been removed since it didn't 93support more than 12 temp registers, didn't support branching/looping, etc. 94
95 96 97
To Do (someday) items
98
99
Switch to freeglut 100
Fix linux-glide target/driver. 101
Improved lambda and derivative calculation for frag progs. 102
103 104 105
Driver Status
106 107
108Driver Status 109---------------------- ---------------------- 110DRI drivers varies with the driver 111XMesa/GLX (on Xlib) implements OpenGL 2.1 112OSMesa (off-screen) implements OpenGL 2.1 113Windows/Win32 implements OpenGL 2.1 114Glide (3dfx Voodoo1/2) implements OpenGL 1.3 115SVGA unsupported 116Wind River UGL unsupported 117DJGPP unsupported 118GGI unsupported 119BeOS unsupported 120Allegro unsupported 121D3D unsupported 122
123 124
125
126
127
